The shire of Aros is honoured to yet again host the annual Historic Fencing Camp. Yet again we will have Master Timotheus with us, this time to teach us on the paradox of Defence as understood by George Silver and Master Cernac the Inspired will be instructing us on the teachings of Nicoletto Giganti. Apart from that Master Arenwald is back from the far reaches of Lochac and will be teaching us Marozzo and some general techniques in footwork and voiding. Prince Erik will instruct us in how to win Nordmark Coronet using period technique.

The site has 18 beds available and there will be crashspace available as well. Site opens at 1700h on Friday and closes at 1800h on Sunday. Breakfast and lunch will be served on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be travellers' fare available on Friday evening and a splendid banquet on Saturday evening.

If you intend to participate in the cut&thrust fencing please bring protective equipment, at minimum a set of skate pads.

The site is the same as last year, Thorgården, Lurbo in Uppsala, Sweden.



Directions:

By car:
From the South
From Stockholm drive north on E4 towards Uppsala.
Take exit 186 toward Uppsala S, drive 1,4 km. Continue straight ahead through a roundabout. Continue driving straigt ahead on Kungsängsleden. Drive over a bridge and continue straight ahead at the following traffic lights. Keep driving straight ahead. Go straight throuh a very small roundabout. Drive a bit more, there will be fields around you. Turn right at a sign saying "Lurbovägen". Drive over a small stream and up a hill. It is the first house on the left.

From the north:
Drive south on the E4 until you see the sign saying Uppsala S. Continue then as above.

By train:
Go to Uppsala Central station and we will arrange pickup.

By air.
Arlanda Airport is close to the site. The train to Uppsala central station runs every half hour or get in touch and we will arrange pickup.

The cost of the whole event (including all meals and a bed) will be 550 SEK

George Silver's “Paradox of Defence” is one of the primary manuals for cut-oriented fencing and a good basis for fighting cut&thrust in the SCA.

Principles for fencing with single rapier from one of the most influential Italian rapier manuals.  As this style emphasises the use of thrusts it is suitable for standard SCA heavy bladed fencing as well as Cut-and-thrust.
